Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) a global rather national issue to health care with significant impact on morbidity and mortality. Ageing population, metabolic syndrome, major surgery, ICU admissions, bacterial and viral infections, after all injudicious use of drugs and exposure to toxins and extreme weather makes the kidney vulnerable to stress. Early detection and prevention are the cornerstone to manage complications. Time is an important determinant of prognosis and different terminology have been coined for early detection to prevent complications. Acute renal failure (ARF), Sub acute kidney injury, AKI, Acute kidney disease (AKD) AKDD (Acute kidney Disease related disorder) and finally chronic kidney disease (CKD). Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines 2026 draft has addressed the definition, classification, and management of acute kidney injury (AKI), acute kidney disease (AKD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). In practice, some clinical presentations of acute kidney diseases and disorders (AKD) do not meet the criteria for AKI or CKD. This presentation highlights to demarcate a brief comparison regarding AKI AKD and CKD.
