Invasive Sphenoid Sinus Aspergillosis: A Rare Case of Polyneuritis Cranialis
Keywords:
Aspergillosis, Polyneuritis cranialisAbstract
Invasive sphenoid sinus aspergillosis is a rare but life-threatening condition usually found in immunocompromised patients. Patients are frequently misdiagnosed with a neoplasm or sellar abscess when involving cavernous sinus and surrounding structures. Timely diagnosis and intervention are crucial to patients’ outcomes. If treated timely, these CNS lesions can have a relatively good prognosis. Conversely, delays in diagnosis can confer very high rates of mortality among patients with invasive fungal disease. We describe the clinical presentation, imaging techniques, and treatment modalities for this relatively rare disease in a newly diagnosed diabetic patient.
