About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Journal of Contemporary Dental Sciences (JCDS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access, BM&DC recognized journal published biannually in January and July. The journal aims to foster advancements in dental research, clinical practices, and innovations that enhance oral health care outcomes globally. We publish high-quality, original research articles, case reports, and comprehensive review papers that contribute to the evolving field of dentistry. JCDS covers a broad spectrum of dental disciplines, including clinical, laboratory, and translational research, with an emphasis on addressing contemporary challenges and breakthroughs in dental science.

Scope:

  • Original Research: Original studies in areas such as clinical dentistry, dental materials, periodontology, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, prosthodontics, and more.
  • Case Reports: Detailed reports of unique and rare clinical cases, presenting novel diagnostic approaches, treatments, and outcomes to enhance practical knowledge in dental practice.
  • Review Articles: Critical reviews and meta-analyses offering comprehensive insights into current trends, challenges, and future directions within the dental profession.

While our primary focus remains on the field of dentistry, we also welcome interdisciplinary contributions that highlight the intersections of dental science with other medical and health sciences. Research that bridges dentistry with systemic health issues, innovations in medical technology, and patient-centered care approaches will be considered.

Global Perspective:

JCDS seeks to create a global platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge, welcoming submissions from domestic and international authors. We are committed to promoting high ethical standards in scientific publishing and adhere to the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Review Process

All articles of our journal are reviewed by external members and researchers all over the country relevant to submitted article in a randomized way. After submission, all articles are sent to the reviewers. The members of the editorial board are usually not the first choice as reviewers. They send their receipt within 10 days. They then send the reviewed articles with their comments back to the editors. The reviewed articles are then prepared for print. It usually takes 1-2 months in the whole process. Detailed process:

Peer Review Policy

The Journal of Contemporary Dental Sciences (JCDS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly publication through a rigorous, transparent, and efficient peer-review process. This policy outlines the step-by-step procedure that every manuscript undergoes from submission to publication, facilitated by the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The journal publishes biannually in January and July.

Our process employs a double-blind peer-review system, ensuring the anonymity of both authors and reviewers. Each manuscript is typically evaluated by a minimum of two independent subject experts. The final editorial decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief, informed by the reviewers' recommendations and a comprehensive editorial assessment.

Step 1: Manuscript Submission & Initial Check

  • Action: Authors submit their manuscript electronically via the OJS platform, ensuring full adherence to the journal's Author Guidelines.
  • Deadline: Submissions must be received 4–5 months prior to the target publication issue to allow for a complete review and production cycle (e.g., by September 1st for the January issue; by March 1st for the July issue).
  • Responsibility: Corresponding Author.

Step 2: Preliminary Editorial Screening

  • Action: The Editorial Office conducts an initial technical and quality check for scope, formatting, plagiarism, and ethical compliance.
  • Decision: Manuscripts failing this screening are desk-rejected.
  • Timeline: Within 1 week of submission.

Step 3: Invitation to Reviewers

  • Action: The Editor-in-Chief/Executive Editor identifies and invites a minimum of two suitable reviewers via OJS.
  • Timeline: Within 1 week of passing Step 2.

Step 4: Peer Review Execution

  • Action: Invited reviewers assess the manuscript's originality, significance, scientific rigor, and clarity.
  • Reviewer Recommendations: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.
  • Timeline: Reviewers are given 4 weeks to submit their detailed reports.

Step 5: Editorial Decision & Communication

  • Action: The Editor-in-Chief/Executive Editor evaluates all reviewer feedback and makes the final decision.
  • Timeline: Within 1–2 weeks of receiving all reviewer reports.

Step 6: Author Revision (If Applicable)

  • Action: Authors revise the manuscript and submit a point-by-point response to all comments.
  • Timeline:
    • Minor Revisions: Resubmission within 1 week.
    • Major Revisions: Resubmission within 3 weeks.
  • Responsibility: Corresponding Author.

Step 7: Re-evaluation & Final Acceptance

  • Action: The revised manuscript is re-evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and/or original reviewers.
  • Decision: The manuscript is formally Accepted.
  • Timeline: 1–2 weeks after receipt of the revised manuscript.

Step 8: Production & Publication

  • Action:
    1. Online First (Continuous Publication): Upon final acceptance, the manuscript enters production (copyediting, typesetting, and proofing). Once ready, it is published immediately on the journal's website under the "Online First" section with a unique DOI and citable information.
    2. Issue Compilation: On a bi-annual schedule (January and July), all "Online First" articles are formally compiled into a complete issue with a table of contents.
    3. Print Version: A print version of the compiled issue is produced thereafter.
  • Timeline:
    • Online First Publication: 3-4 weeks after final acceptance.
    • Issue Compilation: Fixed dates of January 15 and July 15.
