Abstract

The success of complete dentures retention stability and masticatory efficiency enhanced by ideal occlusion. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of ideal occlusal patterns for complete dentures. This study was evaluated in the department of prosthodontics, BSMMU. A total No. of 36 edentulous patients were studied in this department from January 2004 to December 2005 and divided into two groups. In Group-I, 21 patients were treated by Balanced Occlusion and in Group-II, 15 patients were treated by LingualizedOcclusion.Data were collected and analyzed using unpaired test and Chi-Square test P-<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Result showed that mean percentage of retention stability and masticatory efficiency were improved 62.1% and 45.7% in Balanced Occlusion and 37.3%/ 13% in Lingualized Occlusion. So it can be concluded that Balanced Occlusion in Complete Denture gives more retention-stability and masticatory efficiency.
