Herbal hair oils are widely used for their nourishing and therapeutic properties, offering scalp conditioning and treatment of hair disorders with minimal side effects. This study evaluated the physicochemical and sensory properties of nine commercially available hair oils to assess their quality, safety, and compliance with cosmetic standards. Parameters analyzed included color, odor, sensitivity/irritation, pH, specific gravity, acid value, saponification value, iodine value, and peroxide value. All samples were non-irritant with acceptable pH, but some showed deviations in other parameters. Oils like Hamdard, Navratna, and Rangapori largely met standards, whereas Farjana and Sesa exhibited oxidative instability, indicating potential formulation issues. Findings highlight the need for strict quality control and proper storage to ensure safety, stability, and consumer acceptability. It was observed that all of the tested herbal oils showed some UV protection capabilities showing the highest SPF values around 7.0.
