The Dhaka University Journal of Biological Sciences publishes full papers and short communications that report original research in any area of the biological sciences and make a meaningful contribution to the field.
Manuscripts must be written in English and formatted with 1.5-line spacing and 1-inch margins on all sides. The length of full papers should be approximately 3,500 words, excluding the abstract and reference list, while short communications should not exceed 2,000 words, including tables and figures.
Authors must ensure that both plagiarism and AI-generated content are thoroughly checked before submission. The acceptable limit for plagiarism is a maximum of 20%, and for AI-generated content, a maximum of 30%. However, no more than 10% similarity from any single source is acceptable.
By submitting a manuscript, the author(s) confirm that the work has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere. The Editors reserve the right to edit accepted manuscripts for brevity, clarity, and the removal of redundancy.
The cover letter must be signed by the corresponding author.
The title page must include: Title of the paper, full name(s) of the author(s) and their affiliations with ORCID ID, complete address of the institution or laboratory where the work was carried out, a short running title, 5 to 6 keywords, email address and contact number of the corresponding author, who will receive all correspondence (galley proofs, reprint requests, etc.)
Full papers must include an unstructured abstract of no more than 250 words. The abstract should briefly state the background, objective(s), methods, and main results.
The main text should be organised consecutively under the following headings: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Authors’ Contribution, Acknowledgement (if any), and References.
Place tables at their appropriate positions in the text and number them consecutively in the order cited (e.g., Table 1, Table 2). Each table must have a concise, descriptive title placed above it.
Formatting requirements:
Tables must be self-explanatory and must not duplicate information given in the text or figures.
Prepare figures using standard scientific software such as Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism, Origin, or Adobe Illustrator to ensure clarity and high quality.
Submission requirements:
Photographs should be high-contrast, glossy colour prints. Legends for figures, plates, and photographs should be listed consecutively and numbered to match the figures, plates, and photographs.
The metric system and the Celsius scale (°C) must be used throughout.
References must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references.

Short communications should be written as continuous, paragraphed text, without section headings such as Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, or Conclusion. The reference list should contain no more than 10 entries.

Authors are also requested to submit the manuscript and a cover letter to the Editor via e-mail.
Final galley proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for correction and must be returned to the Editor promptly. Authors should correct existing content only and must not insert new material at the proof stage.
Authors will receive 15 reprint copies.

Bangladesh Journals Online (BanglaJOL) is a member of the Ubiquity Partner Network coordinated by Ubiquity Press. According to the EU definitions, BanglaJOL is the data controller, and Ubiquity Press are the service providers and data processors. We regularly backup our databases, and we use reliable cloud service providers (Amazon, Google Cloud, Linode) to ensure they are kept securely. Backups are regularly rotated and the old data is permanently deleted. We have a clear internal data handling policy, restricting access to the data and backups to key employees only. In case of a data breach, we will report the breach to the affected users, and to the press/journal contacts within 72 hours.
Personal information is only used to deliver the services provided by the publisher. Personal data is not shared externally except for author names, affiliations, emails, and links to ORCiD and social media accounts (if provided) in published articles and books which are displayed as part of the article/book and shared externally to indexes and databases. If a journal operates under open peer review then the reviewer details are published alongside the reviewer details.
